Everyone knows you’re in for a good time when it’s wedding season. But the not-so-good-time is figuring out how to save the dollars. We count down our top wedding tips for savvy spending when it’s your turn to walk down the aisle.

5. Get Savvy with the +1s

Of course you want all your best gal pals and their respective beau’s at your wedding, but it’s a good idea to limit the amount of plus ones to just your ‘couple friends’. By cutting just 10 Tom’s, Dick’s and Harry’s you could save more than $2,000 on catering and alcohol alone.

4. Choose Your DJ Wisely

Let’s be honest, some DJs can come with a hefty fee for their services. And the reason that they’re up there with the dollars is that we all want a great party with bangers that take us through to the early AM (if you make it that far). When deciding on a suitable budget, ask reputable DJs or companies about booking an associate. More often than not DJs can recommend another person that works for them at a lower price, meaning you get a similar vibe and quality, just someone different playing the tunes.

If you’re not willing to have an associate all the way, you can do both! Sometimes the DJ will have an associate who plays at the ceremony, cocktail hour and dinner, and then the main DJ comes out for the dancing queens later in the evening or at the after-party.

3. Choose an off-peak period

Did you know that not all wedding dates are created equal? During peak seasons, and specifically peak dates, you pay a higher price for the venue, the flowers and more. Not only are vendors vying for your business in the off-season, they’re also more likely available for your date. Peak wedding seasons in Perth are Autumn and Spring, with Winter and Summer the off-season.

Although there are 7 days in a week, there are also differences in the day that you book.

According to the Easy Wedding Annual Wedding Survey (2017), Saturdays were the most popular day to get married with a 62% of weddings occurring on the day. The next most popular day to get married was a Friday at 15%.

Sunday was the third most popular day to get married with 11% in popularity.

2. Go Paperless

With Australian’s bei ng increasingly more sustainable, wastage is out and digital is in. So, it’s no secret that more and more couples are opting for electronic invites rather than paper ones. Not only does this help save the environment, it also helps save your bank account too. You save on designer costs, printing costs and postage costs. Get in contact with a tech-savvy-designer-friend, or DIY with downloadable templates from Etsy or Canva.

Tip: If you’re not ready to go full paperless (because #doitforthegram) your save-the-dates could be done digitally and your invites can still be sent out. Best of both worlds, right?!
